SESSION DESCRIPTION:

In this continuation of our conversation about unconscious bias, we switch our focus from the individual to organizations and explore how unconscious bias manifests in organizations.  Unconscious bias influences the organizational culture through communication and established practices such as hiring, compensation and succession planning. This leads to restriction of opportunities, decreased creativity and can impact morale and motivation of employees. We will explore the role of organizational leaders, HR and Learning managers in overcoming bias and creating and instituting policies and procedures that make their organizations diverse, inclusive and dynamic.

  • Learning Objectives

    Participants will:

  • Define how biases manifest and are sustained in organizations
  • Describe the negative effects of biases in organizations
  • Explain the need for, and the benefits of, creating diverse and inclusive organizations
  • Explore how L&D professionals can reduce bias in the content they develop and in how training is facilitated
  • Discuss the role of HR Managers in creating people policies that foster diversity and inclusion
